This bank holiday weekend saw West London host Europe’s largest street festival.
From the top end of Notting Hill Gate all the way to Kensal Road, the area was filled with vibrant colours and sound systems which provided an atmosphere unmatched by any other in the UK. With the Grenfell Tower catastrophe so recent in our minds, Carnival provided an opportunity for the community to once more come together and continue to raise funds and wear green as a mark of respect. Prevailing under extreme council pressures, organisers saw numbers estimated over one million in attendance for the weekend. With artists speaking out on the importance of remaining independent and foregoing corporate sponsorships, the landscape of carnival is clearly changing.
