Burning Pyre takes us on an ambient journey to ease us into the weekend with October’s guest playlist.
Who are you and where are you from?
Christopher Macarthur – but I go by my musical alias Burning Pyre.
I’m an ambient musician and owner of the label Eastern Nurseries (co-run with my friend
Rui Andrade/Canadian Rifles) based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Where do you go for comfort food?
I normally go to Dojo in Newcastle – they do fantastic set meals and ramen.
What spot in the city do you never get tired of visiting?
My favourite venue in the city, The Star & Shadow Cinema. They host some amazing club nights and live events. It was the last place I played before the first lockdown.
Where do you go if you’re looking for some peace and tranquility?
Whitley Bay. The evenings are particularly beautiful.
What 5 items do you never travel without?
- Headphones
- Diet Coke
- A book (I’m reading “The Agony of Eros” by Byung-Chul Han at the moment)
- My glasses
- A lighter
What are some of the tracks that remind you of your city and why?
“The Surreal Light of Morning” by V. Sinclair – it’s not on Spotify unfortunately, but it offers a
certain intimacy and beauty that is particularly comforting.
A composition best listened to alone on a dark, autumn evening.
“When Love Comes Into Question (U Know It Hurts)” by Tears
– a true drinking song.
You can listen to the playlist below on Apple Music and Spotify.
