Calais Pt. 2 – Aria Shahrokhshahi

Welcome to Calais

Aria Shahrokhshahi, a 20 year old photographer of Iranian descent, for a second time took to The Jungle to show a ‘real’ perspective of life on the other side. A side without any agenda but showing the reality of the lives of the ‘immigrants’ Shot all on film, the images captured are ‘controversially beautiful’. Controversial because it’s documenting the hardship of  refugees displaced by the violence raging on in their homelands, searching for a better life. At the same time it’s hard not to acknowledge the fact these photos are aesthetically pleasing. No awkward poses, no camera team, no retakes. Just the reality of life in the camps.

This isn’t a jungle. It’s an inhabited space.  It’s Aria’s time in Calais, part two.
