Why are people protesting against Trump?

Trump has made his second state visit to the UK this week since starting his presidency early 2017. The state visit is to ‘strengthen’ the relationship between the US and the UK, where talks take place on topics such as trade, investment, security and defence. On his first visit, a massive protest outburst of 10,000 people in central London where we first saw a massive Baby Trump balloon and the strong reaction of British public towards Trump’s visit. His schedule over the last few days has included meeting The Royal Family, Theresa May and the leader of Brexit Party Nigel Farage. The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had proposed talks with Trump on issues such as climate change, threats to peace and the refugee crisis, but he later refused to meet with Corbyn due to him addressing protests in London today.

Many people, such as The Major of London, Sadiq Khan, showed their disapproval towards Trump and his state visit with a selection of statements calling Trump’s language similar to that of 20th century fascism via a video created with Elle UK. Trump tweeted on Monday morning, directly @ing Khan saying;

Not the most diplomatic tweet coming from the President of the United States… We have gone down to the protest today to find out what people think about Donald Trump and why they have decided to attend the protest.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

GOBLIN GOBLIN GOBLIN

What brings you to the Trump protest?

He has taken civilisation back a few centuries. Everything that he is doing for women’s paternity rights, and just everything about him. I feel like we talk about him all the time and it gets pretty exhausting – it’s all just a fucking joke. Because he is in power, he is a dangerous joke.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

DISGUSTING. HORRIBLE. NEUROTIC.

What brings you to the Trump protest?

It’s not just Trump, it’s the whole Republican party. Nobody is calling him to account. He lies all the time and he is just a horrible human being. The Republicans are letting him walk all over the constitution and the democracy. The UN today condemned the abortion law which is torture towards women. You can believe what you want but you can’t deny the fact that you’re not allowing women access to healthcare. It’s appalling.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

MISGUIDED, SCARY, DANGEROUS

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I have the unique opportunity to be here as an American in London to watch the rest of the worlds response to this. All the things that are happening in London – like the projections on Tower of London, the Boris Johnson video, and the baby Trump balloon. I think it’s really important seeing the British style of protest, standing-up for what’s right, the use of sarcasm and art to push back in a way where the rest of the world gets to see it.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

PROBABLY NOT ACCURATELY.

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I’m half here for climate change awareness, and half here because I strongly disagree with the abortion ban that is being placed and I think Trump isn’t doing anything to negate that.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

NOT WITHOUT SWEARING.

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I think that everything he has done and the way he has conducted himself is really dangerous – not only his country, but for ours too. The way our countries have been speaking – with Theresa May and The Royal Family inviting him over it just makes me furious. He is dangerous for the human race.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

RACIST, MISOGYNISTIC, BIGOT

What brings you to the Trump protest?

Climate change is the main thing. It’s awareness because his policies have denied that it’s happening which is terrible. Also I just can’t believe that we have to protest for something like ‘don’t be racist in 2019’. I’m here because I want to show my point of view.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, DIVISIVE

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I’m just showing my support and seeing the narrative of what everybody else has got to say. To show that we don’t want Trump here, and to say his visit is apparently costing us £40 million is a joke – money that can be spent so much better than having Donald Trump here.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

SMALL HANDED MALE.

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I think it is a big support of solidarity. I think having everybody here is a clear sign that we all know what kind of man he really is. I believe that he is a racist, misogynist and just not a very nice person and something has to be done about it. And to get everybody here from different ages is great.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

ORANGE. AS AMERICAN AS THEY COME. STUPID.

What brings you to the Trump protest?

I’m a Muslim and I should be celebrating Eid Mubarak but what’s more important. I want to make sure that there’s a future celebrating Eid Mubarak rather than celebrating it now.

Can you describe Trump in 3 words?

RACIST. SEXIST. NEO-LIBERAL

What brings you to the Trump protest?

We have to fight the rise of the far right and the fascists all around the globe. We have Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Matteo Salving and Narendra Modi – these people hate women, ethnic minorities and gay people. They need to be fought and we need to build movements against them.
