The search for ‘that’ leather jacket just might be over
Up there with issues like Donald Trump still in the running for presidency and Brandon asking for nudes, are leather jackets. Yep, we all know the search for that perfect fitting leather jacket is a myth; you put it on thinking you look like Danny Zucko’s double, but in actual fact look like a Tesco value Roll Safe. So how do we solve a problem like this? Well, I cant help you, but the guys at Nineteenthletter can. We catch up with Qusay (@qusayalhashemi), who modeled and handled creative direction for the project.
Who are you guys and how did your team come about?
James Drakeford (@mrkingjd) and I are both from Ohio. His journey to becoming the full time manager of the Midwest’s premier street wear and lifestyle boutique Sole Classics, as well as being a notably versatile and socially conscious creative is a path very similar to the one I dreamed of taking from a very young age. Living in the same city, naturally we got to know one another.
Sergio Scott hails from Chicago. A major in graphic design led up to his rise to starting up the culturally driven street wear brand Nineteenthletter which he plans to expand as he gets more exposure.
As for me, I’m tryna take the world on right now and at the same catalog a diverse array of work for my college art portfolio.
But yeah, you really gotta have a team to help accomplish anything. I saw talent I could bring together and that’s what I did.
That’s something I intend to continue doing. That’s something we need to take on as individuals. Realizing our potential and executing. Using our voices. Coming across problems and solving them. The world is a mess right now. We all gotta
team up to cleanup our part of the map, you know? Cleanup crew.
Why a leather biker?
Leather jackets are a staple for every street wear brand and Sergio wanted to recreate this classic piece in his own way.
I took on the role of streaming more depth into what Sergio created by personifying a enigmatic, ominous, yet composed character.
Where did you draw inspiration from?
All the antiheroes that have conquered and fallen.
a central character in a story, film, or drama who lacks conventional heroic attributes.“with the age of the anti-hero, baddies and goodies became less distinguishable from one another”
What makes these jackets stand out?
Quality. Fit. Price.
The great thing about the collection is that it’s designer house level quality at an affordable price. As far as I’m concerned it’s the best price point for a genuine leather biker jacket in the industry.
Whats next for you guys?
There’s a lot more coming. Basics are essential for any wardrobe and Sergio wants to tackle that next. There’s going to be a lot of social commentary. As a small part of my college portfolio I’m gonna be doing freelance creative direction. Part of that Is helping Sergio hone in on his creativity as well as others.
Additionally, I’ll be publishing a lot of my own work here soon. Things I’ve been developing for months, if not years.
As for Sole Classics, I’m sure they’ll continue to kill it.
If you could choose one person to be seen wearing this, who and why?
I would be happy to see anyone throw some unique fits together with this piece.
I know Basement people will cook up something nice.
