London based Tash LC is a DJ, host and presenter for both radio and club sets. This week we linked up with Tash for the Basement Mix Series. This mix is an exploration of sounds from around the world filled with Bass, Club, Techno, Rap and Drill.
Who are you & where are you from?
Tashan Leah Campbell AKA Tash LC and I’m originally from Croydon, South London.
Where do you go for comfort food?
It’s gotta be Caribbean takeaway or anything South East asian! I love Silk Road in Camberwell, Wuli Wuli, Delly’s, Rudie’s – so many great local spots.
What spot in the city do you never get tired of visiting?
Probably Brixton. It’s a place I’ve grown up around as a child and now have found so much to love about it as an adult. There’s just a certain energy there, it’s comforting in so many ways and although it is usually incredibly hectic I still find a sense of peace walking around and just observing people.
Where do you go if you’re looking for some peace & tranquility?
I love a walk around Brockwell Park. Also a run usually does it for me too. I find so much mental clarity when I’m focussed on running and sweating, with some great tunes on too of course to stay motivated.
What 5 items do you never travel without?
Headphones, a book, lip balm, my production planner, water.
What are some of the tracks that remind you of your city & why?
Kano – P’s and Q’s: Classic grime banger / anthem that represents everything to love about the genre and London.
Lord Kitchener – London Is The Place For Me: One of the most famous Calypsos documenting the arrival of Caribbean migrants into London, and the rest is history.
Shaybo – Dobale: I love everything about this tune, Shaybo fully repping South and the come up from the hood. For me she represents the pure no frills talent of women MC’s in the city, fully not giving a fuck and carving their own path.
