Yesterday we headed down to our home pitches in Islington for Monday Night Football. With the new season just around the corner, Ellis Gilbert is close to being signed to semi professional Club, Hayes & Yeading United FC. He was at the session to make sure that his touch was on point and he doesn’t fluff his lines at the trial match he’s playing tonight for the semi-pros. A lot of the others, like Louie Akinwale, were keen to shake off the effects of a weekend at Lovebox and have a kick about.

The warm up consisted of booting the ball at the keeper and a friendly game of King of the Ring. Captains Aaron, Louie and Ellis then went head-to-head with 5-aside winner-stays-on games.  Pushing the goals back, we ended the session with full pitch 8 vs 8. After going three goals down, Ellis and Clint’s side managed to claw back three goals to make it all square at the final whistle.

Penalties followed. Aaron Lesta slotted away the winning penalty leaving Alex Ropes with his head in his hands, even though he had a near faultless record from the spot for his side.

We put on these football sessions to allow space for people to escape the trials and tribulations of everyday life. It’s about creating an atmosphere that is competitive but friendly, with the aim that people become absorbed and forget about their screens and stresses for an hour or two. All ages and abilities are welcome at our sessions – whether you are on trial at West Ham, or specialise in playground football, you’ll get your fair share of touches of the ball.
